Journals

I am a lifelong keeper of journals: daily life, art projects, travel, dreams...

College-ruled notebooks and composition books fill a basic need as a journal. But, I've always altered them in some way to make them more personal, more attractive. I don't think I'm alone in this quest, so I've created a series of lined college-ruled notebooks with artwork on the covers and a pretty first page.

Hot Off The Press -  8.5" x 11" Black Paper Journals - For Gel Pens

6" x 9" Flora and Fauna Journals

6" x 9" Vanitas Journals

Vanitas, (from Latin vanitas, “vanity”)

I took the old still-life style a bit further, by adding my artistic twists with Ravens, Dragons, Dolls, Poppies, Candles, and other elements not found in the traditional Vanitas still-lifes.

* Vanitas, an art genre that emerged during the early 17th century, is characterized by still-life paintings filled with symbols that remind viewers of the inevitability of death and the fleeting nature of worldly accomplishments and pleasures. These paintings encourage contemplation of mortality and the futility of earthly pursuits, urging viewers to reflect. This reflection on mortality and meaning remains as relevant now as it was centuries ago, reminding us to look beyond the ephemeral and seek deeper fulfillment.

6" x 9" Surreal Art Journals

My surreal work is often a magic potion of life and dreams mixed into paint and poured out on paper or canvas.
Sometimes, these creations have a story to tell and demand Latin names.

Presenting a surreal bird in a classic Audubon poster style was a fun nod to Birders, with ornithology notes like "winter plumage" and the hen's "chicks known as little eye-boogers."
