Green Sea Turtle in a Half Moon Caye Bay
Green Sea Turtle in Half Moon Caye Bay
Series – Tropical Nightlife.
I created this watercolor after watching sea turtles hatch and scurry into a crystal clear moonlit bay in the Caribbean Sea. A perfect night in paradise. There are perfect moments in life, and this painting evolved from one of them.
This archival print, ‘Green Sea Turtle in Moonlit Bay,’ captures a magical Caribbean night inspired by Half Moon Caye in Belize—a place so special it became Belize’s first protected area in 1928. Designated a Natural Monument in 1982 and part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World Heritage Site in 1996, Half Moon Caye is a sanctuary for red-footed booby birds and a haven for rescued sea turtle hatchlings.
Watching these tiny turtles scurry into the crystal-clear, moonlit bay was one of those perfect moments in life, and this watercolor painting is a tribute to that memory. The scene is split between the moonlit silhouettes of palm trees and the glowing corals below, with a green sea turtle floating gracefully in the shallow water. The moonlight illuminates the top of its shell, while the soft glow from the sea floor reflects on its flippers and underbelly.
Originally a 12”x12” watercolor on Arches paper, this archival print brings the serene beauty of a tropical night to your home. Whether you’re decorating a beach house, a coastal retreat, or just dreaming of paradise, this piece is a reminder of nature’s quiet magic.
Good karma seems to follow this painting around—let it bring a little of that magic into your space.
Companion pieces in this series are Tree Frogs singing in the moonlight and a Gecko moon-bathing; available to purchase separately.
