Lighthouse Reef
Lighthouse Reef - Oil on Canvas
Fine Art Giclee Print
I love the natural light that sparkles through the gin-clear water on a bright Caribbean day.
I try to memorize a reef scene in the same way I would look at something while drawing it, observing every detail, shadow, and sparkle of light as I put my pen to the paper — but it happens in my mind. Because of this focused observation of every little thing, I make a crap dive buddy.
I’m the type of person who needs to know the name of things, because Mother Nature went wild when she was in a creating mood and she must have spent years with her blue palette and especially blue fish. So, when someone says they saw a blue fish while snorkeling, I think Whale Shark, Neon Goby, or something in between? I love blue fish.
A few of my favorite Caribbean reef fish star in this piece: a Stoplight Parrotfish, a Juvenal Wrasse, and a brilliant Yellow-tailed Damsel swimming with other tropical reef fish through a lush forest of bright corals and sponges.
This is a dreamed scene, not from a photo or photorealism, divers will know.
Lighthouse Reef is off the coast of Belize.
