Caverna Diablo I
Caverna Diablo I
Watercolor
After a days of cave diving with wild dolphins off the outer cayes of Belize and a dreams about the experience, I had to paint Caverna Diablo I and 2.
After swimming for months with my escorts, I began to have dolphin dreams, not dreams of dolphins, but rather being one of them, one of the family, seeing the world through their eyes.
I wanted a cave with a surreal and sacred feel, dripping with stalactites and monolithic stalagmites, ancient sculptures from a time when the cave was above sea level. In the soft light, these natural formations have the look of bearded demons, and I needed to paint them.
My dreams are vivid and surreal.
Original watercolor 22”x30” on Arches paper.
