The Legend of the Blue Hole
Legend of the Blue Hole - Sea Dragon
Ink Drawing
This drawing began as a day scene with a sun, but as my sea monsters often do, it evolved into something unexpected. The sun turned into a moon, and deep shadows pulled the waves into a baroque-inspired motif, creating a night scene filled with mystery and myth. These creatures emerge from the depths of my subconscious, often surprising me with their ornate style.
I remembered a day I had been diving at the Blue Hole on a friend's boat, resting between dives, listening to the guests chatter about what lives — or lurks — at the bottom of the hole and in the caves. There are often schools of sharks like there were that day, but the divemaster hinted at something more mysterious in the darkest depths that he swore had been glimpsed on night dives. Like a storyteller sitting beside a campfire, he had captivated the guest. So when my Sea Dragon turned dark, and the moon came up, I had to rename him The Legend.
